Green, White and Black Monday

2017 is over, it is done, no one cares about the past, you will never learn nothing from that old nonsense. 2018 is where it’s at, it is time to create new history! Happy New Year one and all!

First item on tonight’s agenda are the key dates for 2018:

Wednesday 14th February – Outdoor training returns to the National Hockey Centre at 8pm.

Saturday 17th February – Men’s second team return with an away fixture at Giffnock.

Saturday 24th February – Men’s first team return with an away trip to Falkirk.

For those too impatient to wait until February for their next hockey fix, Indoor hockey continues on Sunday’s at the Lagoon Centre in Paisley. Rob Barrand and Scott Hay are the men to contact if you wish to scratch your itch of inactivity.

Finally tonight, I would like you all to have a think about what you can do for Rottenrow in 2018. Our club thrives due to the passion and commitment of its members. We are lucky enough to have a number of volunteers, who dedicate their time to fulfil committee positions, to umpire our club fixtures and provide a wide range of social events for us all to enjoy.

If you are interested in getting more involved, make 2018 the year you take the plunge and put yourself forward to help your club!

To offer you a flavour of the various ways you could help Rottenrow this year, we will be shining a spotlight on a number of key club positions over the next few weeks. Our final outdoor training session for 2017 will be on Wednesday 22nd November. Coach McNeill will return to a National Hockey Centre near you in early 2018.


Our new Indoor campaign begins on Sunday 26th November. Scott Hay and Robert Barrand are leading the troops into battle this season. The indoor season runs through December and January, offering an excellent way to keep fit, hone your hockey skills and satisfy your need for competitive sport.

Scott and Baggy are really keen to get as many of you involved as possible over the next couple of months, so if you are interested in joining the Indoor squad, please drop them an email at or


After much hard work and searching your social committee have found a venue for this year’s festive celebrations! The freight train has left the station!

Well gents, what a weekend that was! 3 wins, 2 debut goals from Stevie and Marc, as well as our 1,500th club goal. Not bad at all!

We have had a really positive start to the season, both on and off the field, and I wanted to share what we will be focusing on, as a club, over the coming weeks.

Club Training – Wednesday nights – 7:45pm until 9:30pm – Glasgow Green
Our talented coaching team have started the year very strongly and training has been of an excellent standard. Get yourself along each week to benefit from the varied and engaging sessions the lads bring together.

We have had a great deal of interest from you all around becoming officially badged umpires this year. Details around when and where you will be able to achieve your dream will be with you soon. In the meantime, if you are interested in learning more about the new rule changes for 2017/18, get yourself along to the West District Umpiring meeting at Milngavie and Bearsden Sports Club, this Tuesday (19th September) from 7:15pm.

Club representatives are in advanced negotiations around an early season club get together. Once details are finalised, get the date in your diaries and make yourself available for what promises to be a very exciting evening!

Membership Fees
We will share details of our 2017/18 membership fee structure in the next two weeks. As promised at AGM, your committee has conducted a full review of the club finances. PowerPoint fans get excited because Treasurer Gus has a treat for you!

Summer Events Calendar

Stick It To Cancer 7s – Saturday 1st July 2017 – Mixed 7-a-side tournament
Key Info: This fun and sociable festival took place for the first time in Edinburgh in 2016. A very enjoyable and well run event. Get yourself along and help raise some money for a great cause.

Rottenrow BlueSox Mixed Tournament – Saturday 5th August 2017 – Mixed 7-a-side tournament
Key Info: IT IS BACK! The magnificent Rottenrow BlueSox Mixed Tournament will return in 2017. Hockey, beers, barbeques and almost certainly sunshine, what is not to love? Bring your friends, bring your loved ones, bring folk you aren’t even that fussed about. Get as many people involved as you can.

Ayr Festival – Saturday 19th August 2017 – Mixed 7-a-side tournament
Key Info: Shortened to a one day extravaganza, this year’s Ayr Festival will be a mixed 7-a-side tournament. We have tasted victory in Ayr before; let’s bring back the trophy again this year!

Men’s Training Restarts – Wednesday 23rd August 2017
Key Info: Men training will run from 8pm to 9:30pm at the National Hockey Centre, Glasgow Green. Coach Stu McNeill will be preparing the troops for battle ahead of the new season.

Rottenrow 10k – Saturday 26th August 2017 – Club Fundraiser and Family Fun Day
Key Info: This year will see the inaugural Rottenrow BlueSox 10k. Our route is to be designed by one of our club’s elite athletes and will both start and finish at Glasgow Green. Post-run festivities will be encouraged. There will be lots more info on this event to be shared across the summer months.
