Let The Season Commence

This weekend the men’s 2nd XI and 3rd XI start their seasons. The 2nd XI kick off with a home game against GHK 2. The 3rd XI start their campaign at home to Western 6.

2nd XI Captain JK said, “Both squads are very excited about starting their league campaigns and equally as excited about playing our first league games at the new National Hockey Centre. The 2nd XI have been very fortune with the league reshuffle and are looking to take full advantage of being jumped up to WD2. The squad is looking strong and we can’t wait for Saturday. The 3rd team has a real mix of experienced players and fairly new players. It might take a bit of time to get them to gel but I’m predicting a strong season from them once they get going. Some early points on the board for a brand new team would be a great start to the season.”

Naturally it would be great to have some support to start the season off. So if you are free on Saturday pop along to watch the 2nd XI at 1230hrs and the 3rd XI at 1400hrs….oh and check out our new home!

Fitness Training

With the start of the hockey season just around the corner we want to give everyone the chance to up their fitness levels. With this is mind we are starting fitness sessions on a Tuesday night – starting this Tuesday (3rd September).

We have forged a partnership with Clanfit gym in the West End, near Kelvingrove Park (you can find them on Facebook). We have hired out the entire gym with equipment for fitness, strength and conditioning training from 8pm – 9pm on Tuesday evenings. Hopefully this means folk will be more likely to keep up fitness training in the winter months when a heated gym would be preferable to the Glasgow winter weather!

The first session will be run by a Clanfit coach called Sam who will show everyone the equipment etc. Thereafter sessions will be run by our own Ben Brewer.

Now for the really good news – the sessions are open to all Rottenrow and BlueSox members,  as well as any potential club members who’d like to come along and meet the guys…..and it will only cost you £1!

If you have any questions, would like more information or if you’re thinking of popping long to meet the teams feel free to drop an email to Stuart McNeill (captainindoor[at]rottenrowhockey.co.uk)

Training Is Back!

Thanks to everyone who came along to the tournament today. We had a great day and hope you did too. If you enjoyed yourself and fancy playing some more hockey then there’s good news…..

The start of the new season is drawing near and we have three BIG announcements to make…..

Firstly, Rottenrow HC and BlueSox HC are joining forces to play under one banner – Rottenrow BlueSox! This means we now have mens and ladies teams within the club.

3rd XI

Following the success of the Rottenrow Men’s 1st and 2nd XI, to keep up with the rapid expansion of the club over the summer and to give everyone a fair chance of a game, we are introducing a Rottenrow 3rd XI for the 2013/2014 season!

The third team will be a great way to make sure everyone is included, after all that’s what we are all about at Rottenrow BlueSox HC. It will give new players the chance to find their feet and more experienced players the chance to share their knowledge and push on themselves.

But where will all these teams call home? Well that’s the next announcement……….

2014 is going to be a special year for sport in Glasgow, the Commonwealth Games is something we are all very excited about at the club. As you may be aware a new home of Scottish Hockey has recently been built at Glasgow Green. This is where the Commonwealth Games hockey matches will be held…..and this is where Rottenrow BlueSox will call home from now on!

Yes, Rottenrow BlueSox are officially moving in to the National Hockey Centre at Glasgow Green! (For a sneak preview check out this Commonwealth Games video).

We are hugely excited about this move and the opportunities it will bring. Not only will it mean we will be playing on the Commonwealth Games pitches, the pitches used by the Scotland team, but it will provide the club with a proper home. Family and friends will, as always, be very welcome to come and support the Row, but this time they will be able to do it from the comfort of a pitchside seat or even the clubhouse!

We’d like to thank Scottish Hockey for this fantastic opportunity.

So we move into a new era for Rottenrow BlueSox – three men’s teams,  one ladies team and a brand new, top of the range home.

Everyone is welcome to join Rottenrow BlueSox HC, whether you’ve never held a hockey stick before or you are a seasoned veteran. Please feel free to contact us, we’d love to speak with you. Even better, turn up at our tournament tomorrow (10th August 2013) and join in the fun!
